WORKSHOPS

CARDIGAN SWEATSHIRT

This workshop is designed to use a purchased Sweatshirt and turn it into a cardigan using your own design theme. The design themes are the four seasons. You may choose which season you prefer of the four provided. (It is necessary to use a purchased sweatshirt with SET-IN SLEEVES. The SWEATSHIRT should be one size larger than you would normally wear to accommodate a shirt underneath.)

ATTIC WINDOWS WALLHANGING

Do you have scenic fabric that you do not know how and where to use? This workshop uses those fabrics and makes a wonderful wall hanging. The workshop also teaches an easy way to make mitered corners. There are 12 blocks in the piece and each has a mitered corner. You will be a real pro at doing the corners when this project is completed. The wall hanging is approx. 29” x 36” finished.

SPRING BASKET WALLHANGING

This workshop teaches the “stack and cut” technique to achieve the flowers in the basket. The project uses small to medium sized floral fabrics. The wall hanging is machine pieced and may be machine or hand quilted.

SIX FAT QUARTER QUILT

This workshop is designed to make a lap quilt using SIX FAT QUARTERS. It is approx. 41” x 49 ½” This quilt is wonderful for charity quilts. It is the right size for children. Bright fabrics, 30's reproductions or Thimbleberries fabrics look wonderful in this design. Use up some of those fat quarters in your “Stash”. The quilt is machine pieced. It may be the machine or hand quilted or tied with embroidery floss.

SEMINOLE TABLE RUNNER

Try this interesting technique on a table runner. It is strip pieced on the machine and is machine quilted. The finished size is approx. 19” x 56”.

CHRISTMAS TREE SKIRT

Why not get a start on next years Christmas project? This lovely tree skirt only requires three fabrics. This project is pieced and quilted on the machine.

FOUR PATCH FLANNEL NAPPER

Quilter's Flannel has become very popular for quilts. Why not make this four patch napper to keep you warm this winter and learn some hints and techniques for working with the flannel. The quilt finishes approx. 48” x 60”. The quilt is machine pieced and machine quilted or it may be tied with embroidery floss.

HAND APPLIQUE

This class teaches the basics of hand appliqué. The sample piece can be turned into a pillow top or a small wall hanging when completed. Some of the techniques included in this class are the invisible blind stitch, bias strips, hearts (inner points and outer points) as well as learning how to make patterns for the appliqué pieces. This project is completely done by hand.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Each of the listed workshops requires a Six Hour Day. The time for the workshop is flexible. 10:00 – 4:00 or 9:30 – 3:30 The maximum size of the class is 20 students. Two weeks notice is required for cancellation of the class. The fee for the Workshops is available upon request. Travel and accommodations are additional. I am interested in traveling anywhere across Canada .

Personal Information

I have been working at The Cotton Patch for 18 years and have been teaching at the shop for 16 years.I have taught workshops at the Celtic Lodge Retreat, the Thistle Quilt Guild, Mahone Bay and for the My Time Square Quilters. I have also taught numerous workshops for the Mayflower Quilters Quild. I have taken quilting classes with many top name teachers to allow me to improve my own skills for quilting as well as learning new techniques for teaching classes. Some of the teachers I have taken classes from include Jinny Beyer, Eleanor Burns, Carol Mclean, Nancy Johnston-Srebro as well as many others. As a teacher I feel that it is important for me to expand my horizons and improve my skills and to pass this on to my students.
